Training Summary
This half-day unique training course will enable practitioners to develop new skills and
competencies around culture and links with witchcraft, beliefs and faith-based abuse.
Participants will work on a range of case studies to strengthen their skills to intervene
effectively in families where there have been accusations of witchcraft and spirit possession.

Training objectives
1. Training Content
The training course will cover the following:
? Exploring the concept of “Witchcraft”, what this means across different cultures and
religions and looking at some historical context to inform present day beliefs and
practices.
? Examining present day issues in the UK, some Serious Case Reviews of children impacted
by witchcraft abuse and the scale of the problem in the country.
? Examining the “Stages of Witchcraft Abuse”, why abuse occurs and risk factors for child
accusations and branding as witches.
? Exploring links between mental health and witchcraft abuse or spirit possession.? Exploring how witchcraft abuse impacts on children and the duty to safeguard children at
risk
? Exploring how to work with families where there is risk of witchcraft accusation or abuse.

2. Training Outcomes
By the end of the session participants would have:
? Gained new knowledge and understanding of how witchcraft, belief and faith-based abuse
are manifested through different belief systems and practices.
? Understood the indicators of witchcraft abuse and how to identify risk of harm to children.
? Been better equipped with new skills and competencies to intervene successfully in
families where there have been accusations of witchcraft in order to safeguard children.
? Understood how to refer cases of witchcraft, belief and faith-based abuse to AFRUCA to
help protect at risk children.

3. AFRUCA Training Courses: Considerations
At each training session, AFRUCA endeavours to meet the accessibility needs of training
participants as much as possible. Some of the ways we will do this include;
1. Provide timely and adequate information about our online training courses so delegates
can easily access and participate in online sessions.
2. Present training materials and slides in a user friendly manner with regards to font size,
font style, presentation background
3. Read out case study questions and putting them up on the screen in large fonts to ensure
all participants can easily read.
4. Express explanations in more than one way to enhance the learning experience of all
participants.
5. Avoid the use of acronyms, metaphors, complex language or phrases open to
misinterpretation.
6. Use visual aids such as charts, pictures and graphs to aid learning.
7. Training is broken down into one hour sessions to enable regular break times.
8. Review previous sessions to help remind participants of subjects covered.
