This course is designed to introduce communication and person-centred planning tools for those working with individuals with a learning disability. The course explores creative approaches to communication and promotes the positive impact of inclusion on individual lives /outcomes.
This course is for Department of Adult Social Care and Public Health (DASCPH), local authority staff only.

To introduce a range of tools to improve communication / person centred planning
By the end of this course participants will:
Explain how legislation and local policy supports person centred practice in own organisation
Explain the benefits of person-centred practice on the individual
Describe ways to involve people with learning disabilities who don’t use verbal language to communicate their needs
Identify a range of person-centred communication tools that are available for person centred practice
Describe creative approaches to communication
Identify tools to gather information about a person with a learning disability’s strengths, needs, preferences, hopes, dreams and desires for their person centred plan
Describe how to carry out person-centred assessment in a way that promotes social, emotional, cultural, spiritual, intellectual and physical wellbeing
Explain how positive risk-taking supports person centred planning
